It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind that we lose sight of the big picture. This is a reminder that your self-respect and self-worth are not tied to a job, title or company.

Of course, work is central to our lives and a good career can be a major part of anyone’s life. You have worked hard, the dream job is here and you literarily can see the admiration in the eyes of people when you mention what you do and the company. These are undoubtedly well deserved and you should be proud.

However, It is easy to get addicted to being identified with work. Keep these as a reminder:

  1. Your values and truths should be your defining factor — what you love, what you dream of, what you hold dear are what defines you.
  2. Even highly-skilled, experienced and educated professionals can find themselves without a job for some time. It is not you, it is probably them. For your sanity, be secure in your self beyond any job.
  3. Opportunity is never evenly distributed. Stay grateful and offer lifelines to others.
  4. People won’t remember you by what you do but how you made them feel. How you express yourself and treat others are more a reflection of who you are than what your job is.
  5. Your job is something you do, so do it so well that you can’t be ignored but it is NOT who you are.

Open your world, find yourself, be self-aware and be more than your job intentionally. Your happier self will thank you.
